Two Dead, 15 Injured in Army Recruitment Bus Accident

On Saturday, an accident involving Army recruitment candidates occurred at approximately 5:30 AM on the Owerri-Port Harcourt Expressway, two kilometers from Obinze Barrack in Imo State. A bus transporting the candidates collided with a tipper truck en route to Zaria.

According to a statement from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, 15 individuals sustained varying degrees of injury, while the bus driver and conductor were among the critically injured. Despite efforts to save them, the bus conductor and one recruitment candidate succumbed to their injuries.

The injured were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri and the Brigade Medical Centre of the Army for treatment. Major General OA Fadairo, the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

An investigation into the cause of the accident has commenced, and arrangements are being made to ensure the safe movement of remaining candidates to the Nigerian Army depot in Zaria. The Army urged the public to disregard unverified information circulating on social media regarding the incident.
