Supreme Court Schedules Hearing for ADC Leadership Dispute

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has set April 22 for an accelerated hearing concerning an appeal filed by David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This appeal is against a judgment delivered on March 12, which dismissed Mark's earlier appeal regarding an ongoing leadership dispute within the party.

The appeal process involves a case marked as "Mark SC CV 180 2026," where Mark seeks an order to stay the execution of the Court of Appeal's ruling from March 12. This ruling had dismissed his appeal against a decision made by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, who had refused to grant injunctive relief requested by Nafiu Bala, a former Deputy National Chairman of the ADC.

The Court of Appeal, led by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, upheld objections raised by Bala's legal team, stating that Mark's appeal was incompetent and did not reflect the rules of the trial court.
