Nigerian Farmers Deny Cement Preservation of Beans: Prices Drop Due to Improved Methods

The Cowpea Beans Farmers, Processors, and Marketers Association of Nigeria (CBFPMAN) refuted claims of using cement to preserve beans, clarifying that farmers rely on safe methods like airtight sacks and mild additives to prevent insect infestation. The association's president, Kabir Shuaibu, emphasized the safety of traditional preservation techniques and debunked the viral video alleging the use of harmful substances.

Shuaibu attributed the recent drop in bean prices to improved preservation methods and a good harvest season, dismissing the notion of cement preservation. Market surveys revealed a significant decrease in bean prices across Nigeria, attributed to better supply and reduced wastage due to improved preservation practices.
