Cormart Nigeria Transitions to Gas Engines for Efficiency
• Punch Newspapers • Business
Cormart Nigeria Limited is spearheading a transition towards gas energy to address rising operational costs and emissions. The company, part of the Tropic Gener Investment Group, operates five gas engines with a total capacity of 5 megawatts—1.5 megawatts at its head office in Ilupeju and 3.5 megawatts at its production facility along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. This shift is a response to the challenges faced by Nigerian manufacturers due to high energy costs and the need to meet environmental standards. Jawwad Alasa, Cormart's Technical Manager, explained that the transition to gas will help stabilize product costs without compromising efficiency. The company has also implemented energy-efficient measures, including steam leak detection systems and regular energy audits, to further reduce costs and emissions. Yianni Tsantila, Managing Director of Clark Energy Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasized that Cormart's approach aligns with broader food security and economic development objectives, aiming to lower product costs and increase the availability of affordable products for the Nigerian population.
