DMO to Auction N1 Trillion in FGN Bonds This September
The Debt Management Office (DMO) is set to offer N1 trillion worth of Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) bonds at its monthly auction. This offering includes a reopening of the 15.45 percent FGN June 2038 bond and a new 10-year FGN September 2036 bond.
The auction features N600 billion of the new bond and N400 billion of the reopening instrument. Analysts anticipate strong demand and potential oversubscription due to excess liquidity in the financial system, although there is no consensus on the expected spot rates for these local debt instruments.
This auction is part of the DMO's strategy to manage the Federal Government's borrowing costs and reduce debt service expenses. In the previous auction, the DMO sold N631.02 billion of the 15-year reopening bond at a clearing rate of 17.79 percent, down from 18.04 percent in July.
The outcome of the current auction is expected to attract significant attention from banks and institutional investors.
