Edo ADC Chairmanship Crisis Escalates Amid Aspirants' Clash
• Punch Newspapers • Politics
The crisis within the Edo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified over the state chairmanship position. Senator Roland Owi, a member of the ADC National Executive Council, disclosed that two aspirants, Dr. Mike Ehima and Toni Alil, have expressed interest in contesting for the chairmanship. Following developments, a mini primary was deemed necessary, with Dr. Ehima reportedly scoring 75 votes against Alil's 4 votes. Owi stated that Chief John Odigi Oyegun, the national leader of the ADC, cannot unilaterally choose the chairperson and called for the National Executive Committee (NEC) to intervene. Owi criticized Oyegun's recent conduct during local government congresses, asserting that the process was not transparent and urging Oyegun to cease what he termed "playing games." Kelli Odion, another party member, insisted that the local government congress was a sham and emphasized the need for compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission's directives.
