Expert Urges Inclusion of Sexuality Education in Schools to Address Adolescent Health Challenges

Professor Funmi Ogundar and Dr. Ayodel Arowojolu emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive sexuality education in schools to tackle adolescent health challenges like teen pregnancies, unsafe abortions, drug abuse, and mental health issues.

They highlighted the lack of proper sexual education, misinformation, and the role of parents, policymakers, educators, and healthcare providers in promoting responsible sexual behavior among adolescents. The call was made during the 7th Aina Omololu-Mulele Endowed Annual Lecture on obstetrics and gynecology at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, expressing concerns over the various challenges faced by adolescents in low and middle-income countries.
