Ministers Resign from Tinubu's Cabinet, Face Primary Defeats

Several ministers from President Bola Tinubu's cabinet resigned to contest in the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries but faced significant defeats. Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power, resigned to pursue the APC governorship ticket for Oyo State but lost to Sarafadeen Alli, receiving only 19 votes compared to Alli's 578.

Yusuf Tuggar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, also resigned and contested for the APC ticket in Bauchi State but lost to Moha Abubakar, scoring 26,001 votes against Abubakar's 57,517. Saidu Alkali, former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, resigned to contest in Gombe State but finished third in the primaries.

The outcomes have raised concerns about the political futures of these former ministers, with allegations of irregularities and intimidation during the primaries. The resignations were formalized by March 30, 2026, ahead of the elections.
