Galatasaray Fans Banned from Liverpool Match by UEFA

Galatasaray fans will not be allowed to attend the UEFA Champions League last 16 second leg against Liverpool at Anfield, as UEFA has upheld a sanction following crowd trouble during a match against Juventus on February 25. The Turkish champions were fined €40,000 due to incidents where supporters threw objects and lit fireworks during the match in Turin, which reportedly injured a Juventus fan's daughter.

Galatasaray lost that match 3-2 but advanced 7-5 on aggregate to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League. Despite Galatasaray's appeal against the ban, UEFA confirmed that the decision would stand, meaning the Super Lig leaders will travel to Anfield without their traveling support for the match scheduled on March 18.

The first leg of this encounter will take place in Istanbul next week.
