IGP Disu Advocates Global Police Cooperation at UN Summit

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening international police cooperation during the fifth United Nations Chief Police Summit (UNCOPS) held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on July 7-8, 2026. The summit convened ministers, inspectors general of police, chief police officers, and senior representatives from various regions and professional police organizations worldwide to discuss strategies for enhancing international peace, security, and development.

IGP Disu highlighted the increasing exploitation of artificial intelligence and encrypted communications by modern criminal networks, which pose challenges to traditional policing models. He noted that technology presents significant opportunities for law enforcement, emphasizing the need for transparency, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Disu advocated for greater international cooperation and capacity building, stressing that technological advancements should benefit all nations, not just a select few.
