Kano Assembly Suspends LG Chairman Over Subsidised Fertiliser Price Hike, Others

The Kano State Assembly has suspended the chairman of Rano Local Government, Muhammad Nazir Yau, for three months over allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and financial misappropriation. The suspension was prompted by a report from the House Committee on Public Petitions, which cited claims of incitement of conflict and disunity among political stakeholders, as well as selective distribution of government resources to political allies.

Yau's alleged actions included raising the price of government-subsidized fertilizers without the knowledge of council members. The committee has directed the Ministry of Local Government to appoint a vice chairman to act in Yau's place during the investigation.

Meanwhile, in Ethiopia, a significant agreement has been reached to establish a large fertilizer facility in the Somali Regional State, aimed at boosting agricultural output and stabilizing regional supply chains. This development comes at a time when the cost of fertilizers is skyrocketing, posing a threat to food security and prices across the country.
