Burnham Calls Infantino 'Wrong Man' to Lead FIFA

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that Gianni Infantino is “the wrong man” to lead FIFA after Carlos Cordeiro, Infantino’s senior adviser on global strategy and governance, resigned. Cordeiro described Infantino's proposal to sell stakes in competitions to private investors as “a bad deal for football” that would “mortgage football’s future.” Burnham condemned the proposal as outrageous, emphasizing that it undermines the unity and universal character of the FIFA World Cup.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) expressed solidarity with European and North American confederations, stating that Infantino's plan could not realistically achieve the necessary consensus to move forward. The AFC's stance indicates that Infantino's proposal is unlikely to gain approval from FIFA members, as it requires a straight majority of 106 out of 211 votes.

If all member associations align with their governing bodies, 136 nations could oppose Infantino's plan.
