Mobilization Over Protests: YPP's Jide Filani on 2027 Elections

Jide Filani, a presidential aspirant from the Young Progressives Party (YPP), stated that mobilization, rather than protests, is essential for Nigeria's success in the 2027 elections. Speaking during a consultative visit to the inter-party advisory council secretariat in Ogun State on Thursday, Filani described protests against the new electoral act as inconsequential.

He emphasized that Nigeria's path to success in the upcoming elections depends on strategies that encourage a large voter turnout. Filani argued that mobilizing citizens to participate in the democratic process is crucial to reducing voter apathy, which he identified as a significant obstacle to achieving desired electoral outcomes.

He noted that while legislative reforms, including amendments to the electoral act, are important, the greater challenge lies in mobilizing citizens for ownership of the democratic process. Filani also highlighted the need for improved border management and agricultural investment to address food insecurity in Nigeria, urging political parties and civil society organizations to intensify grassroots mobilization and civic education.
