New Zealand to Raise Income Thresholds for Visas in 2026

New Zealand is set to increase income sponsorship requirements for Parent and Pacific visas starting April 30, 2026. This decision is part of an effort to align immigration thresholds with rising wage costs and economic realities.

The updated rules will affect several visa categories, including the Pacific Access Category and the Parent Resident Visa. Applicants will need to meet higher income thresholds, requiring sponsors to provide evidence of earnings over at least two of the last three tax years, covering the period from April 1 to March 31.

Applications submitted before the effective date will not be affected by these changes. Additionally, the Parent Boost Visitor Visa will undergo a broader review of sponsorship income thresholds.

Existing applications will continue under previous criteria. These changes are part of a series of immigration reforms aimed at fine-tuning New Zealand's migration system to attract and retain global talent while ensuring compliance with labor laws and providing greater certainty for migrant employment.
