Nigerian Government Reverses Ban on International Basketball, Allows D'Tigress to Compete

The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development led by Ismaila Abubakar, has reversed the ban on international basketball following an appeal by the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) signed by Musa Kida. President Muhammadu Buhari approved the immediate withdrawal of Nigeria from international basketball competitions for a period of two years.

This decision aims to address the crises affecting basketball development in Nigeria and focus on revamping grassroots sports and domestic leagues. The ban reversal comes after Nigeria's female basketball team, D'Tigress, qualified for the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

The ban withdrawal is effective immediately.
