NNPC Completes Key River Niger Crossing for OB3 Pipeline

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) announced the completion of the critical River Niger crossing for the OB3 pipeline, a significant milestone in expanding Nigeria's gas transmission network. This project, executed by NNPC's subsidiary, NNPC Ltd, involved drilling approximately two kilometers beneath the River Niger using advanced horizontal direct drilling technology.

The 130-kilometer OB3 pipeline is designed to transport 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day. The completion of this crossing is expected to unlock an additional 500 million standard cubic feet of gas supply to the domestic market, positively impacting electricity generation and manufacturing.

Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, described this achievement as a turning point for Nigeria's gas infrastructure, emphasizing the disciplined execution and commitment to overcoming technical challenges. The project aligns with the federal government's broader energy targets, including increasing crude oil production to 3 million barrels per day and gas output to 12 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2030.
