Passengers Disrupt Egypt Air Flight Over Luggage Delays

Passengers aboard an Egypt Air flight from Lagos to Cairo disrupted operations at Murtala Muhammed International Airport due to delays in the delivery of their luggage. The flight, which arrived on May 19, 2026, had 219 passengers who were frustrated by the airline's failure to communicate about their luggage, which had not been checked prior to their arrival.

Passengers expressed dissatisfaction, insisting that the General Manager of Egypt Air address their concerns directly. Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed that the airline operated a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which was inadequate for the heavy luggage carried by Nigerian passengers.

He noted that the airline should consider deploying a larger aircraft, such as an Airbus A330, to accommodate increased luggage demands. Despite assurances from Amr Basha, General Manager of Egypt Air Nigeria, that the luggage would be delivered the next day, passengers remained dissatisfied, leading to further delays in the flight's departure, which was rescheduled to 4:00 PM.
