Sossamania Sports Festival Concludes at Unilag with Success

The Sossamania sports festival, organized by the Social Science Student Association at the University of Lagos, concluded on May 21, 2026. This event, recognized as the longest sporting event in the university's calendar, featured nine departments competing in multiple sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, tennis, and table tennis.

A total of 40 matches were played, covering preliminary group stages, semifinals, and finals. The Political Science department emerged as the football champions, while the Faculty of Engineering won the men's 4x100m relay and the Faculty of Arts secured the women's 4x100m relay.

The event saw significant improvements in student turnout and media coverage, attributed to the introduction of a dedicated Sossamania website for live updates. Despite facing challenges such as scheduling conflicts and crowd control, the festival was executed smoothly.

Special recognition was given to Dr. Felix Akeju, the Director of Sports, and the coaching staff, including Coach Bishop, Coach Ijeoma, and Coach Funmi, for their contributions.
