Trump Calls for Probe into Maryland Ballot Error

Former President Donald Trump has demanded a federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice into a mail-in ballot error in Maryland, where voters received incorrect party ballots for the gubernatorial primary election.

Maryland's State Board of Elections acknowledged that a vendor mistakenly mailed wrong party ballots to voters, although the number affected was described as small. To rectify the situation, the board announced that 500,000 replacement ballots would be sent out, with the goal of avoiding confusion.

Trump accused Maryland Governor Wes Moore of being responsible for the mistake, claiming it was a deliberate act to ensure a Democratic victory in the state, which he characterized as "automatically Democratic." However, Governor Moore's office rejected Trump's allegations, stating they were misleading and emphasized that the election process is overseen by a bipartisan state board, not the governor. The Maryland State Board of Elections clarified that no fake ballots were issued and that the issue stemmed from a printing error by the vendor.

The primary election is scheduled for June 23, 2026.
