Trump Designates Muslim Brotherhood Branches in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan as Terrorists

The United States formally designated the branches of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan as terrorist organizations, in line with a campaign initiated by President Donald Trump. This decision, supported by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, follows previous actions against the pan-Islamist movement.

The Muslim Brotherhood, founded in Egypt in 1928, has faced allegations of supporting Hamas and extremist movements. The group briefly rose to power in Egypt through democratic elections but was ousted in 2013 by a military coup led by Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who has since overseen a crackdown on the organization.

The move is part of efforts to suppress the Muslim Brotherhood's activities in the region.
