UNILAG, UNICEF, Others Inaugurate BIRD Lab to Drive Behavioural Research, Others

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) College of Medicine, in partnership with UNICEF and other organizations, has launched the Behavioural Insights Research Design Laboratory (BIRD Lab) to drive policy programs and advance child and maternal well-being initiatives in Nigeria. The lab, hosted by the Network for Behavioural Research for Child Survival in Nigeria (NETBRECSIN), aims to generate evidence, test innovations, and scale behavioral science solutions.

UNICEF Deputy Representative in Nigeria, Rownak Khan, emphasized the importance of insights in shaping social programs and highlighted the lab's role in helping policymakers and practitioners understand community perceptions. The initiative, which began in 2011, involves 19 universities across Nigeria and focuses on improving health outcomes through behavioral research and interventions.

The BIRD Lab provides a collaborative space for researchers, academics, and other stakeholders to work together towards meaningful solutions.
