Shariah Council Denies Calls for INEC Chairman's Removal

The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN), represented by its Secretary General Nafiu Baba Ahmad, issued a statement denying allegations that it had called for Muslims to pray for the removal of Josh Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The council described these claims as false and misleading, asserting that they were intended to create unnecessary tension and drag the council into partisan politics.

SCSN emphasized its commitment to promoting justice, equity, and peaceful coexistence, distancing itself from any political manipulation that could undermine national stability. The council also reiterated its earlier position regarding Amupitan, expressing concerns about alleged bias against Islam and Muslims, which it believes reflects a broader sentiment.

SCSN urged the public, particularly the Muslim community and media, to disregard the false reports and rely on official communications from the council.
