Mourinho Negotiates Return to Real Madrid After 13 Years

José Mourinho is reportedly in final talks to return to Real Madrid as head coach, marking a potential comeback 13 years after his first spell at the club from 2010 to 2013. The 63-year-old is the clear favorite to replace Álvaro Arbeloa, who has been in charge since January after Xabi Alonso's departure.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez first considered Mourinho's return shortly after Alonso left. Mourinho currently manages Benfica, having signed a two-year contract in September 2023.

His contract includes a low-cost release clause of €3 million, allowing him to leave within ten days. Real Madrid is currently facing a trophyless season, trailing behind rivals Barcelona in La Liga.

Mourinho previously won La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup during his first stint at Real Madrid. His coaching career has included successful tenures at Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
