BENGONET Launches Vegetable Farming Initiative for 200 Women
A climate-smart vegetable farming initiative is set to benefit at least 200 displaced women in Benue State, aimed at enhancing household food security and children's nutrition. This initiative is organized by the Benue Non-Governmental Organisation Network (BENGONET) in collaboration with its partners.
The program will provide planting materials and five sacks each to the beneficiaries for vegetable cultivation at the Makurdi International Market camp. Daniel Seer, Vice Chairman of BENGONET, announced this during an event marking the 2026 World Food Day, where food items were donated to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The donations included rice, yam, and seasoning to assist families in need. Victor Asobo from the Global Health and Living Environment Foundation (GOLEF) emphasized that the initiative would help women supplement their families' food needs and improve nutrition.
He also noted the importance of training in climate-smart agriculture to equip the women with necessary skills. The camp manager, Robert Nyom, expressed gratitude for the support provided to the displaced persons.
