In 2025, Nigeria faced a wave of deadly terrorist attacks, with over 2,200 citizens killed in the first half of the year alone. The attacks, attributed to terrorist groups, bandits, and criminal elements, escalated sharply in the North East, North West, and North Central regions.

One of the deadliest attacks occurred on June 13, 2025, in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where nearly 200 unarmed farmers and traders were massacred in a single night.
