Ramadan 2026 Begins February 18 in Nigeria

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, officially announced that the Ramadan fast for the year 2026 will begin on Wednesday, February 18. This declaration was made following the sighting of the moon, which was confirmed by Shehu Borno, representing the Sultan.

The Sultan Council verified reports of the moon sighting received from various parts of Nigeria, leading to the confirmation of the commencement of the holy month. In his statement, the Sultan emphasized the importance of the Ramadan period for Muslims, urging nationwide dedication to fervent prayer, spiritual reflection, acts of charity, and seeking divine guidance for peace in Nigeria.

He highlighted the significance of self-discipline and unity during this sacred month, which will see millions of Muslims across Nigeria and the world engage in daily fasting from dawn until sunset.
