South East Governors Donate N25 Billion to SEDC for 2026

On Wednesday, South East governors from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo announced a collective donation of N25 billion to the South East Development Commission (SEDC) for the 2026 fiscal year. This decision was disclosed by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the chairman of the Senate Committee on SEDC, during the submission of the committee's report on the 2026 budget.

The governors emphasized the need for additional funding, as the SEDC had received insufficient funds in the 2025 fiscal year, leading to the suspension of several strategic projects. The proposed N25 billion allocation is part of a request for an additional N5 billion to augment the SEDC's total allocation to N140 billion.

This funding is intended to accelerate development initiatives in the health and education sectors, aligning with the federal government's renewed hope agenda. Senator Tahir Monguno, standing in for the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, and Senator Solomon Adeola received the report and commended the governors for their initiative.
