Trump Envoy Proposes Italy Replace Iran in World Cup

Paolo Zampolli, a U.S. special envoy under President Donald Trump, has proposed that FIFA replace Iran's national football team with Italy in the upcoming 2026 World Cup. This suggestion comes after Italy's failure to qualify for the tournament, having lost in a playoff match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Zampolli expressed a dream to see the four-time champions, Italy, participate in the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States and Mexico. The proposal is perceived as an attempt to improve relations between Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who has previously criticized Trump regarding remarks about the Pope during the Iran conflict.

Despite the ongoing tensions and discussions about Iran's participation due to conflicts involving the United States and Israel, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that Iran will still participate in the tournament as per the official draw.
