IPC Urges Adequate Funding for 2027 Elections

Mr. Lanre Arogundade, the Executive Director of the International Press Centre (IPC), called for adequate funding for major agencies involved in executing the 2027 general elections, specifically the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

Arogundade made this appeal while leading a team to the headquarters of Blueprint Newspaper, aiming to enlist media support for a seamless electoral process. He stressed the need for media to educate and mobilize critical stakeholders to guarantee credible elections in 2027.

Arogundade praised the professionalism of the media in handling issues related to good governance and development. He highlighted the importance of partnerships, particularly with the European Union, to strengthen media coverage of the electoral process.

Arogundade also criticized the insufficient funding allocated to electoral agencies, urging the federal government to ensure timely release of resources to INEC and NOA. He noted that inadequate funding hampers effective mobilization and sensitization efforts.
