David Mark Urges Integrity in 2027 Elections

On Wednesday in Abuja, Senator David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), cautioned against the manipulation of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the credibility of the polls must be "non-negotiable." He highlighted the importance of a transparent, inclusive, and peaceful electoral process, free from intimidation and the abuse of state institutions. Mark expressed concern over the recurring abuse of the electoral process by both government and non-state actors, which could undermine democratic governance and public confidence in elections.

He referenced the violence during the recent Osun State governorship election, where reports indicated that at least 30 people were killed, calling such incidents reprehensible. Mark reiterated that elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair but as a democratic process for citizens to choose their leaders.

His remarks came during a visit from a delegation of the International Republican Institute, which is assessing Nigeria's preparations for the upcoming elections.
