Senegal Appoints Patrick Vieira as New Head Coach

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) announced the appointment of Patrick Vieira as the new head coach of the national football team on Tuesday, succeeding Pape Thiaw, who was dismissed after Senegal's disappointing performance at the World Cup. Vieira, a 1998 World Cup winner with France and born in Senegal, is tasked with revitalizing the team following their loss to Belgium in the last 32 of the tournament.

Thiaw was sacked less than two weeks after the World Cup, amid claims of toxicity surrounding the team, particularly after he demanded a pay rise. Vieira's appointment was ratified on Monday, and the FSF described it as a “strategic move” to establish a high-level technical staff aligned with the country's sporting ambitions.

Vieira, 50, has a notable playing history, including stints at Arsenal, Juventus, and Manchester City, and has previously managed New York City FC, Nice, and Crystal Palace.
