Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has identified Peter Obi as the sole opposition figure with traction for the 2027 elections, excluding Atiku Obi. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and defections from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have caused a leadership crisis within the opposition.

Recent defections include Peter Mbah (Enugu), Douye Diri, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom). Additionally, Prophet Abel Boma's prophecy regarding instability in the ADC has raised concerns.
