CUPP Urges INEC to Comply with Court Ruling for 2027 Elections

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately comply with a Federal High Court ruling delivered by Justice M. G.

Umar, which nullified certain parts of the electoral guidelines in preparation for the 2027 general elections. CUPP's national chairman, Peter Ameh, emphasized the need for INEC to quickly review and adjust its timetable in accordance with the court's decision.

The ruling is seen as a significant step towards enhancing internal democracy within political parties by removing restrictive limits on political participation. It also broadens the democratic framework, allowing political parties greater flexibility in managing internal affairs.

The court's judgment addressed key areas of the electoral act, including the process for substituting candidates and the timeline for party registration. Ameh warned that any attempt by INEC to challenge the ruling could create uncertainty and diminish public trust in the electoral process.
