2027 Elections: “Drop Shettima,” Northern Ethnic Forum Gives Condition to Support Tinubu

The Northern Ethnic Nationality Forum (NENF), representing 200 ethnic communities in Northern Nigeria, has given a condition to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections. The forum endorsed Tinubu for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket but warned that choosing Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate could deepen religious divisions and undermine national unity.

They urged Tinubu to instead pick a Christian candidate to heal interfaith relations and ensure electoral success. The NENF highlighted discontent within the Christian population and the potential for strengthening opposition alliances if the current strategy is repeated.

Meanwhile, Tinubu's former political adviser clarified rumors of Shettima being sidelined and dismissed speculation of a replacement plot. The forum emphasized the importance of inclusivity in governance as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections.
