2027 Elections: Journalists Tasked On AI-driven Misinformation

Journalists were urged to be vigilant against AI-driven misinformation as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections. The Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, Taiye Adewale, emphasized the importance of countering falsehoods and misinformation during a workshop organized by the Oak Centre in Abuja.

The training focused on using AI to enhance reporting skills, with Adewale highlighting the need for accuracy and confidence in reporting as the elections approach. The workshop, titled "Inside Chamber Reporting in the Age of AI Disorder," aimed to equip journalists with tools to combat disinformation and enhance legislative reporting.

Samuel Ter Vincent, the training coordinator, stressed the urgency of the initiative in the face of increasing challenges posed by AI-driven misinformation. Adewale reiterated the Press Corps' commitment to protecting the credibility of legislative reporting, emphasizing the role of training in building resilience against disinformation and safeguarding democracy.

The Oak Centre announced plans to expand the program nationwide to strengthen Nigeria's preparedness for the integrity of democratic institutions.
