NDC Names Alfred Dapal as Plateau Governorship Candidate

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially affirmed Alfred Dapal Damiyal as its governorship candidate for Plateau State in the upcoming 2027 general election, with Meadkom Dung Vincent serving as his running mate. This affirmation occurred on September 17, 2026, at the party’s state secretariat in Jos, where delegates and stakeholders endorsed the ticket under the supervision of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This decision follows a period of controversy, as the NDC national leadership had previously listed Plateau State Chairman Solomon Ndam as the candidate, while Jonathan Sunday Akuns had emerged unopposed during the party’s May 29 primary. Dapal emphasized the need for a fundamental change in governance, focusing on peace restoration, education, economic development, employment, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Ndam stated that the party would intensify mobilization efforts across the state in preparation for the election, aiming to prioritize the interests of Plateau and its people.
