NDC Signs Pact to Forfeit Seats for Defecting Candidates

On Tuesday, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) held a ceremony at its national secretariat in Abuja, where it signed a commitment pact with its presidential and gubernatorial candidates. The pact stipulates that any candidate who defects from the party after winning an election will forfeit their seat.

Dr. Cleopa Zuwogh, the party's national chairman, expressed concerns about candidates using the party merely as a vehicle for electoral success and emphasized the need for absolute loyalty. He stated that the NDC will invoke relevant sections of the constitution to enforce this rule, ensuring that candidates who abandon the party after winning elections will lose their mandates.

The chairman highlighted the importance of party supremacy and the need for candidates to respect the party's platform. The NDC aims to establish a political brand that prioritizes loyalty and accountability among its members, reinforcing that any candidate who chooses to leave the party will relinquish their elected position.
