PDP Faction Submits Jonathan's Name for 2027 Elections

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Ini Ememobong, the national publicity secretary of the Interim National Working Committee under Turaki, submitted a list of candidates, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 elections. This submission occurred despite the recognition of a rival faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, which was acknowledged by INEC following a Supreme Court ruling that nullified the party's national convention held in Ibadan last year.

Ememobong asserted that their candidates were validly nominated in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and warned INEC against publishing any list other than theirs. He stated that they had submitted their list manually due to INEC's refusal to provide the necessary access code.

Ememobong also criticized a recent Federal High Court judgment that did not recognize the Turaki-led leadership, claiming it contradicted existing Supreme Court and Court of Appeal decisions.
