UNICEF Launches Nigeria Learning Passport for 2.4M Users

The Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP), a digital education platform, is now being used by about 2.4 million children and teachers across Nigeria, as announced by Celine Lafoucriere, UNICEF Lagos Chief of Field Office, during its launch in Oyo State on September 17, 2026. Oyo State has become the 26th state to adopt this platform, which provides access to thousands of curriculum-aligned lessons in Mathematics, English, and Science via mobile phones, tablets, and computers, both online and offline.

Airtel covers the data costs for users, allowing free access to learning materials. The NLP was developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on education and aims to ensure continuity of learning, especially in underserved communities.

Lafoucriere emphasized that success should be measured by actual usage and learning outcomes, not just registration numbers. The initiative involves collaboration among UNICEF, the Federal Government, and various partners, including Microsoft, GPE, IHS Towers, and TECNO.
