36 Nigerians Deported in Joint European Operation

A joint deportation operation led by Germany resulted in the removal of 36 Nigerians, five Ghanaians, and one Gambian, who were sent back to Nigeria. The charter flight departed between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, August 27, with Nigeria and Accra as the destinations for the 41 deportees.

Of the 36 Nigerians, 29 were deported from Germany, three from Austria, two from Luxembourg, and one from Hungary. Austria contributed three Nigerians to the operation, one of whom had a prior conviction for drug-related offenses.

Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner reaffirmed the government's commitment to removing illegal residents and criminal offenders. Germany organized the operation, with support from Austria, Luxembourg, and Hungary, allowing for shared costs and logistics of large-scale removals.

This operation is part of a broader trend of coordinated expulsions targeting migrants without legal residency or those with criminal records.
