Super Eagles Strike in Morocco Over Unpaid Bonuses and Welfare Concerns

The Super Eagles of Nigeria staged a boycott of training in Morocco before their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff against Gabon. The team refused to train until grievances regarding unpaid bonuses dating back to 2019 and poor welfare conditions were addressed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF).

The protest came at a critical moment as Nigeria was preparing for a crucial playoff match that could impact their chances of qualifying for the World Cup. Concerns were also raised about substandard hotel accommodations in Morocco.

The NFF defended their choice of hotel, attributing negative perceptions to misinterpreted videos. Nigerian football stakeholders expressed frustration over perceived mismanagement of player welfare.
