IATA Reports 51 Accidents in 2025 Aviation Safety Review

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its 2025 annual safety report, highlighting a strong safety performance in the global aviation industry. The report recorded 51 accidents out of 38.7 million flights, a decrease from 54 accidents in 2024, despite a slight increase in the fatal accident count, which rose to eight in 2025 from seven in 2024.

The global accident rate stood at 1.32 accidents per million flights, representing an improvement from 1.42 accidents per million flights recorded in 2024, although it is slightly above the five-year average of 1.27 from 2021 to 2025. IATA's Director General, Willie Walsh, emphasized that aviation remains the safest form of long-distance transport, with accidents being extremely rare.

The report also noted significant safety milestones, including no loss of control flight accidents in 2025, marking the second occurrence of such a record since 2020.
