Atiku Abubakar Critiques Senate's $6 Billion Loan Approval

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, expressed grave concern over the Senate's swift approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's request for a $6 billion external loan within a record time of less than four hours. In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described this development as alarming and indicative of a troubling lack of legislative diligence.

He emphasized that such a hasty decision could further strain Nigeria's economy and mortgage the future of unborn generations. Atiku criticized the Senate for acting as a "conveyor belt" for executive requests without proper scrutiny, raising serious questions about due process.

He warned that this borrowing trend reflects a dangerous fiscal path, especially as Nigeria's debt profile continues to rise. Atiku called on the Senate to remember its constitutional role in checking executive excesses and insisted on the need for transparency and accountability in government actions.
