Nigerian Army Faces Rising Attacks in Zamfara Amid Violence
In Zamfara, armed groups have escalated their attacks, leading to significant casualties among security personnel and civilians. On a recent Sunday in Bukkuyum LGA, at least 20 individuals were killed when bandits ambushed traders traveling from Gwashi district to Gurusu market.
Reports indicate that eight security personnel, including five soldiers, two mobile policemen, and one officer from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were among the dead. However, some sources reported the number of security personnel killed as nine.
The attack disrupted market activities and instilled fear among residents. A local resident urged the government to equip security forces with better resources, such as bulletproof vehicles.
Earlier, on Saturday, bandits attacked traders near Dansadau in Maru LGA, setting 12 vehicles ablaze. This violence follows a period where hundreds of commuters were stranded at Magamin Maitarko, resulting in substantial losses of perishable goods and livestock.
