Desmond Elliot, a Nollywood actor and politician, expressed his condolences following the death of veteran actor Francis Duru, who passed away at the age of 57. The announcement of Duru's death was made on October 23, 2026, through a statement on his official Instagram page by his family, and was also confirmed by Abubakar Yakubu, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

Duru was known for his remarkable career in Nigerian cinema, particularly for his role as Ahanna in the 1995 classic film. He also contributed to the governance of the industry, serving as interim president of the AGN in 2010.
