Political Tension Rises in Abia Ahead of 2027 Elections

Political tension is rising in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections as former governors and leaders from the Abia State Progress Congress (APC) unite to block Governor Alex Otti's re-election bid. Key figures, including former governors Orji Uzor Kalu and Theodor Ahameful Orji, have publicly criticized Otti's administration, claiming it has failed to deliver significant achievements despite receiving higher federal allocations.

Kalu, who currently represents Abia North in the Senate, accused Otti of merely rehabilitating existing infrastructure rather than initiating new projects. The coalition has threatened legal action against Otti, alleging he is running the state from his private residence rather than the official government house.

Otti's special adviser, Christian Anokwuru, dismissed these criticisms as desperate attempts by former leaders to regain power. Public affairs analyst Nduka Odo noted that the opposition's actions reflect a clash between performance-based governance and patronage politics.
