Kalu Aims for Abia Governorship, Promises Prosperity

Chief John Okiyi Kalu, a stalwart of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), announced his aspiration to lead Abia State as governor in 2027, stating, "I’ve come to spread prosperity people can see and feel." Kalu, who successfully passed the PDP governorship screening led by Ahm Maikarfi, criticized the current administration under Dr. Alex Otti, claiming that 90% of its achievements are propaganda.

He highlighted issues such as the alleged non-existence of 51 smart schools and questioned the authenticity of infrastructure projects like rail stations and markets. Kalu proposed significant changes, including providing annual bursaries of at least 100,000 Naira for tertiary students, sending 100 Abians abroad for academic purposes yearly, and ensuring civil servants earn a minimum of 120,000 Naira.

He also emphasized the need for industrial development, particularly in garment and shoe manufacturing, and pledged to improve agricultural practices, particularly palm cultivation, to rename Abia as the "palm state." Kalu aims to enhance healthcare and education, ensuring that public schools are secure and well-maintained.
