ABU and Copenhagen University Launch Dairy Farming Project
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has partnered with the University of Copenhagen on the SCREEN Project, which aims to transform pastoral livelihoods in the Damau Household Milk Farm located in Kubau Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The project will investigate the effects of sedentarisation and improved dairy farming practices on household welfare, milk production, climate adaptation, and the dynamics between farmers and herders.
Nigerian coordinator Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics Sanni Abdullahi stated that 736 households have been surveyed, including 256 beneficiary households and 488 non-beneficiary households. The research involves two interrelated studies across multiple departments at ABU and the University of Copenhagen, and will train seven PhD and seven MSc researchers in various fields.
The study will also address issues such as child malnutrition, low milk productivity, and conflicts between farmers and herders, focusing on improved fodder production and inclusive institutions.
