Abuja Marathon Organisers Warn Athletes of Heat Risks

The PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon organisers, represented by Project Manager Emmanuel Odey from Nilayo Management Limited, have issued a warning to athletes regarding the dangers of extreme heat expected during the race on 14 November 2026. Odey emphasized the potential risks associated with extreme heat, particularly due to the anticipated effects of a powerful El Niño climate phenomenon.
He advised runners to prepare adequately by hydrating well, pacing themselves, and listening to their bodies. To mitigate heat-related issues, the organisers will provide chilled water at every 2.5 kilometres along the race route and a cold water bath at the finish area to help runners cool down.
The race will commence at 6:30 am from the Old Parade Ground opposite the Fire Station, concluding at the Velodrome at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Odey concluded with a motivational message for participants to respect the heat and run smart.
