‘Academia And I Were Never Compatible’ – Otedola Recounts How He Dropped Out Of School

Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola revealed in his memoir, "Making Big," the challenges he faced in academia that led to his decision to drop out of school. Otedola recalled his early schooling years, including his time at Methodist Boys High School in Lagos, where he struggled academically.

Despite being transferred to Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo, his passion for academics waned until his breakthrough came when his father established Impact Press printing company in Surulere, Lagos. Otedola joined the family business and quickly rose to become the Managing Director by age 25.

Despite his success, he yearned for independence and convinced his father to allow him to work as a sales consultant for the press. This decision marked the beginning of Otedola's journey to building a business empire in oil, energy, finance, and philanthropy.
